Blog #3- What Is Research?

Research, to me, is finding out about something. I feel like it could start at even the most basic things- like, "Huh, why is that rock sitting there, in the dirt?" If I wanted to find out more about that, I might look up information about why rocks sit in the dirt and/or sit in the dirt where they do. If I still didn't find out what I was looking for, I could think, "Hey, I go to BYU! There are probably people who know things here, at BYU, about rocks." I could then go find somebody who might know things about rocks and why they sit where they do- maybe a geologist. I could talk to him and find out more. By that point, maybe I wouldn't know everything why that rock is sitting there, that I saw, but I might have more information and tools to use to find out the answer to my original question. After using these tools and information, maybe I would finally know why! In the end (and as I've been writing this blog) I've realized that doing research is probably best when the purpose and/or question is significant and helping to bless the lives of other people. So, how does knowing why rocks sit there in the dirt help bless the lives of other people?
